It’s all about maximizing your storage density and your workforce. Whatever your industry, whoever your customer, when it comes to warehouse efficiency, nothing can save you more time, money and effort than properly planning and utilizing your space and optimizing your picking system.
There are countless options for improving the way your warehouse functions, but in my experience, nothing has proven more efficient at maximizing vertical space than the Shuttle XP – the latest in Vertical Lift Module (VLM) technology.
So what does a VLM do?
This VLM is a fully-enclosed system of storage trays with an extractor device that is controlled by an automated management system. This system allows for a relatively large inventory of goods to be quickly accessible to a picking station while being stored safely and securely.
During order fulfillment, the operator selects the desired order/work order on the computer screen located at the ergonomic workstation. The warehouse management software locates and sends the extractor mechanism to retrieve and deliver all the trays of stored items. Where you may have once needed two or three people, you now only need one.
Advantages of VLMs
You can store just about anything. The genius in this system is its flexibility: virtually complete modularity; it can be configured to your specifications. No matter the weight, size or shape of your inventory, the system can be customized to fit your needs. This VLM can be installed as a stand-alone operation or expanded into an integrated system.
- Utilizes the entire height of the warehouse.
- Easy installation and maximum flexibility.
- Full software integrations with workforce management system.
- Enclosed system protects goods from dust, debris and theft.
- Minimized operator movement during order picking increases productivity.
- Parts to person instead of the antiquated person to parts method.
- Greatly reduces travel time to retrieve inventory.
- Ergonomically superior to traditional shelving
- Suitable for indoor or outdoor use (enclosure needed).
Lower Your Costs and Lift Expectations
Recently, one of our customers had reached their maximum storage capacity and decided to utilize three Shuttle XP VLMs with FastPic software, coupled with a narrow aisle pallet rack layout, to increase storage and productivity at their company. As a result, this CNC rotary table company saved the cost of a new building construction with these changes. The project resulted in a 42% increase of palletized products stored in the same footprint as well as 53% savings for small parts inventory.
In our experience, every industry can benefit from introducing the VLM system into the warehouse. From the smallest operations to international enterprises, this system will undoubtedly increase your productivity and effectively streamline the way you store and retrieve products.
